Laugh Often

One of the most important psychic tools you can use is amusement!  Think back to the last time you had a good belly laugh.  How did you feel during it and afterwards?  For me, it's a combination of joy, expansiveness, ecstacy and aliveness. I find it fascinating that amusement results in an immediate energy shift that is quite noticeable.  Especially when you were in a bad mood just a moment ago.

When you are stressed, your body releases a particular type of hormone which helps with the fight, flight or freeze response.  Your muscles tense up and the body goes into survival mode. Too many stress hormones lead to unhealthy results When you are amused, your body releases hormones which lead to relaxation. You feel more social, present and alive.  These states enhance your psychic and intuitive abilities.

You are most powerful when you are amused. Amusement is the opposite of resistance. When you are amused, negative energy just passes right through you. People cannot get on your nerves. Amusement makes you attractive to other people.  It will help you to appraise situations with clarity and make the best decisions for the highest good of all.

The poignant quotes below are for your enjoyment.

Take good care,
Madeline

Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.-- Victor Borge

The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.”-- Mark Twain

What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul.-- Yiddish Proverb

At the height of laughter, the universe is flung into a kaleidoscope of new possibilities.
-- Jean Houston

A person who knows how to laugh at himself will never cease to be amused. -- Shirley MacLaine

If you're too busy to laugh, you are too busy.  --Proverb

We don't laugh because we're happy – we're happy because we laugh.  --William James

Everybody laughs the same in every language because laughter is a universal connection.
--Jakob Smirnoff

Psychic Tools: Not Merely a Visualization

There are people who come to Psychic Awakenings wanting to learn how to open up their psychic abilities; and there are people who come wanting to learn how to close down their abilities.  The former want to see, hear and feel more energy; and the latter already see, hear and feel energy too intensely. The funny thing is that the same psychic tools are used to help some people open up psychically, and others to close down psychically!

"What is a psychic tool?" you ask. A psychic tool is a visualization or intention used to consciously direct your energy. For example, when you are feeling scattered and unfocused, you can "ground" yourself by directing your energy down into the earth.  This is done by visualizing a grounding cord using an image of a tree trunk with roots that go down to the center of the earth.  At first it's just a visualization for most people.  Then they realize that they feel and act differently when they are grounded.  The next step is to use grounding in a more deliberate way to have more clarity or to change the energy of a situation. The real epiphanies happen when people realize that something that was "just a visualization" is now a powerful tool that they can use in their day to day life.

Grounding is the first of dozens of psychic tools that you can use to consciously create your life. If you have been feeling stuck in some area of your life or if you feel that life "just happens," psychic tools will help you to understand the power of your intention and attention.  You no longer have to be an unconscious victim to the vicissitudes of life.

Whether you want to be more aware of psychic energies, or to not feel so bombarded by psychic energies, psychic tools will work for you!

The Universe blesses you every day!

Can You Relate...to Yourself?

Many people are unaware of their psychic and spiritual abilities because they just don’t know and understand themselves very well. Does the question “Who are you?” provoke a sense of self or a feeling of confusion? There are many obstacles to developing a genuine relationship with and understanding of yourself. Your life is busy with responsibilities and obligations (mostly to other people). You probably had very poor role models consisting of people who constantly berated themselves and made decisions that were not in their own best interest. Many of us are raised without recognition and validation of our true spiritual nature. So you were probably not taught how to see yourself as the invaluable spirit that you are your, much less even how to relate to yourself as an infinite being with unique gifts. In addition to not being able to use their psychic gifts, the lack of this most basic relationship causes many people much confusion, grieve and unhappiness.

Relationships take work. Getting to know someone entails giving and taking equitably, appreciating each other’s strong points, and having compassion for any weaknesses. You make time to spend with your friends doing the things that you enjoy doing together. As the result of sharing quality time with friends and family, you develop a deeper bonder and a stronger sense of the person they really are beneath the various roles that they are playing in their life.

Living with one or more other people has its own special challenges. Everyone has to share the living spaces, and hopefully everyone has some private space that they can retreat to when necessary. Sometimes you just need to get away from everyone and find your own space. The one person you can never get away from is yourself. How is your relationship with yourself? Do you appreciate your strong points and have compassion for your weaknesses? Are you able to spend quality time with yourself, developing a deeper bond with and sense of yourself and your intuitive abilities?

Creating a relationship with yourself is not something you can analyze into happening. It comes through experiencing it. Just like relating to good friends, it can come quite naturally with a little planning. You have to create a consistent, regular time and space to do the things you enjoy doing with yourself. You have to appreciate your strengths and have compassion for the parts of you that you wish were different. On an energy level, you have to move everyone else’s energy (i.e., opinions, expectations and demands) out of the space reserved for communicating with yourself. To this end, here are a few exercises with which you can experiment:

Exercise #1: Look in a mirror. Make eye contact with yourself and say, “You know, I really am a pretty cool person!”

Exercise #2: Do whatever you usually do to move everyone out of your space. Jumping into a pool of cold water is good for this. That clear-headed feeling you get is the result of everyone else jumping ship, so to speak. Everyone is psychic. When you jump into the pool, they unconsciously experience it as a drowning feeling!

Exercise #3: After doing exercise #2, spend a few minutes appreciating your uniqueness. This awareness will probably not last very long, but it is necessary to balance out the energy you put into wishing you were different.

Take Good Care of Yourself,
Madeline

Hindrances to Developing Your Psychic Abilites

Many people have a stereotypical image of what being a psychic is like. They think that all psychics can see visions of everything you've ever done, know what you're thinking, communicate clearly with dead people and angels, predict the future and move objects without touching them. Having all of these skills would be a very tall order! Everyone (including you) has their own psychic strengths and weaknesses. Each of these skills involves some way of perceiving the energy around you in your aura. Some people can "see clearly" (clairvoyance), some people can "hear clearly" (clairaudience), and other people can "feel clearly" (clairsentience). Other psychic skills include precognition, healing, telekenesis and trancemediumship. Everyone is born with various psychic abilities and it is possible to more fully develop each of these skills, though some will feel more natural to you than others.

The biggest hindrance to becoming more psychic is the belief that you're not! Who told you you weren't psychic? Actually it was more likely that you just weren't validated for your skills as you were growing up. Maybe you were hushed up when you tried to ask about things that you weren't supposed to know (kids are very perceptive!). Maybe you had an "imaginary" friend and people told you that there was no such thing. We learned how to close it all down, especially those of us who may have been punished for these things.

A second hindrance to developing your psychic abilities is having the stereotypical image of psychics described above. Psychics do not necessarily see in wide-screen, IMax, 3-D vision, nor hear in HD, high-tech stereo. Rather their perceptions of the subtle energy they are looking at is just that - subtle. Good readers are calm and quiet. They have to turn down all the noise and clutter in order to read/perceive/tune into subtle energy. Your first psychic hits might just be a faint image or a single word or a very slight feeling around your heart.

The stereotypical image of a psychic usually doesn't include the most important psychic skill that you can develop. This is the skill of communicating on a spiritual level. When you are receiving important or sensitive information about someone, how do you describe it to them in a caring and respectful way so they can understand and use it? When you can see that someone isn't acting in their own best interest, can you stay out of judgement? How do you communicate in a way that validates them and helps them to move along their path? This is what turns a "psychic reading" into a space of spiritual growth and connection. If you would like to experience this kind of reading, please give us a call!

Exercise Releasing Hindrances to Developing Your Psychic Abilities: Sit in a straight back chair, put your feet on flat on the ground, and take a deep breath. Send down a beam of energy from your hips deep into the center of the earth. See yourself sitting in a bubble of your own energy. Visualize a "time line" out in front of you with one end originating at your birth, and the other end representing where you are right now. Create an image of a rose at the end with your birth. Move the rose along the time-line to the other end. Watch it as it picks up any and all energy that other people put into your space that invalidates your own psychic abilities. Also sop up any energy that defines a psychic as something you are not! You can run the rose along the time-line as many times as you want. When you are done, visualize the rose exploding and releasing all of the invalidation energy out of your space. Now put your attention right behind your eyes, say Hello to yourself using your first name, and also say "Yes, I have the makings for being a very fine psychic!"

Pray for Peace,
Madeline

From Wishful Thinking to Manifestation

There is a very well established school of thought supporting the idea that you can manifest anything and everything you desire and bring it into your life. Another corollary of this is that one can always be happy, and that happiness should be your ultimate goal. In seemingly equal force are the critics and nay-sayers of this kind of thinking. They say that we believers are naïve and narcissistic, refusing to see the limits of the physical laws that govern physical life. We need to grow up and stop being so self-centered.

So are we being self-centered and juvenile with our wishful thinking? On a spiritual level, this isn’t an issue of “he who dies with the most toys wins.” It’s about learning that what you have in life is a result of how and where you direct your attention and intention. On a deeper level, it’s about growing from a space where you create things to satisfy your shallow ego needs to a space of creating with authenticity and meaning.

This shift happens when you receive validation. You need validation for being a spirit in order to feel real. In fact, it’s the only thing you need. If you are not getting this need met, it is reflected in your ego becoming needy. You (your ego) will need attention and things. But things will never resolve your neediness. When you receive the right kind of attention in the form of recognition and connection, then you mature psychologically and spiritually. You learn how to validate yourself. Life is no longer about creating things to make you happy. You realize that “unhappiness” is just another fleeting emotion that’s part of the growth process, usually indicating the layer of the onion that you get to work on next.

Mastering being able to manifest your desires is a life-long process (actually extending through several lives!). Part of the process is in not getting everything you think you want, and figuring out what that means to you. Another part of the process is increasing your awareness of how your creations affect the well-being of other people around you and the whole planet. You realize that mastery and responsibility are intertwined.

I would like to leave you with one of my favorite little ditties that I remember from childhood: May you live as long as you Wish, and have all you Wish as long as you live.
Manifestation Exercise:Sit in a straight-backed chair at a table, with paper and a pen. Put your feet flat on the floor and close your eyes. Send a beam of energy down into the center of the earth, and take a deep breath. Feel deep into your heart and pick one thing you would really, really like to bring into your life. Write a very clear, detailed description of your chosen item. Think about color, size, function and the feelings having this thing will give you. Draw a picture of it. While you are doing this, feel yourself enthusiastically really, really, really wanting the item. When you are done, you can do one of several things with the paper: burn it, sleep with it under your pillow, put it in a family bible, tear it into tiny bits and scatter them in the wind, or bury them in your garden. You can even make copies of the paper and do all of the above! Now here is the key part: Be sure to let go of all the feelings you were generating and your attachment to having the item. Totally forget all about it. Then when it appears in your life, you can be delighted and amazed.
Peace Begins With Each of Us,
Madeline

Developing Your Psychic Abilities

Hello! Psychic Awakenings is a safe haven for sensitive souls to explore their own psychic abilities. You already are psychic. If you have a body, then you are psychic. Your body very sensitively perceives energy. It's your body that feels how different a library is from a grocery store. It's your body that feels the difference between when a friend is angry or happy. Learning to be conscious of how your whole body feels in different locations and situations is one of the first steps to developing your psychic abilities. By learning to use your different chakras (energy vortices within your body - much more about chakras in later posts), you can become conscious of the more subtler energies around you, such as someone's feelings, beliefs and emotions . At Psychic Awakenings, we focus on using the ability of the sixth chakra to read energy. The sixth chakra is located in the center of your head, and this ability is called clairvoyance, which is French for clear seeing.

Now that I've gotten the basics out of the way, the intent of this blog is to give you a variety of short lessons on using your clairvoyance in your daily life. It might be in the form of simple meditations, energy exercises or tips of the trade. Some posts will be geared towards beginners, other posts will be quite esoteric. There may be days when I just offer some ideas to mull over regarding my take on the nature of reality. I always share with the intent of furthering spiritual awareness and peace on planet earth.

Today's lesson: The Space Around You Is Not Empty - Your Personal Space
Before you look at other people's auras, it's a good idea to have a good sense of what is going on in your own space. Sit down, put your feet flat on the floor, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to relax. First get a sense of the size of your space. Is it dense and in close to your body, or is it scattered and open wide? I'm sure you know people who can fill up a whole room with their energy! Some of them you might admire, or some of them you might find obnoxious. Whatever size your aura is, imagine that it has a well-defined border all the way around you. Now you can experiment with pulling it in closer, or making it larger. Which makes you feel more comfortable? If you are a visual person, do you see colors or symbols? Does your energy feel chaotic, or peaceful? It is important to know what is going on in your own space because you have to know yourself well before you are able to be helpful to others. Also, other people are already psychic too! They can tell when you are feeling peaceful or chaotic. Healing your aura's energy is a lesson for another day.

Bless You! and Pray for Peace!
